1. Install on the Mac

On your Mac, click “Download for Mac” on the home page, or open /get/ to download the latest Nohup-<version>.dmg (or package it yourself with scripts/release-mac.sh — see Build from Source). Open it, drag Nohup (Nohup.app) into Applications and launch it. A setup assistant appears on first launch:

  1. Make sure claude was found. If not, install it with the command shown in the assistant, then click Detect Again.
  2. The last step shows a pairing QR code. Keep it open and scan it once the phone app is installed.

Nohup then lives in the menu bar. To pair another device later, click the Nohup icon in the menu bar and choose Pair New Device… (⌘ P). You can turn on Open Nohup at Login in Settings › General, and allow Nohup in System Settings › General › Login Items.

2. Install on iPhone

The iOS app is currently in beta and not yet on the App Store. There are two ways to install it:

  • TestFlight: ask the developer for an invite, then install it in TestFlight.
  • Build it yourself: follow Build from Source to install it on your own device with Xcode (signed with your own Apple ID). Developer Mode must be enabled on the device; builds signed with a free Apple ID expire after 7 days and must be reinstalled.

Then open Nohup, tap Scan to Add Mac and scan the pairing QR code on your Mac (the system Camera app works too). On a device without a camera, click Copy Link in the Mac’s pairing window, send it to the phone (for example with Universal Clipboard) and choose Or Paste a Pairing Link. A pairing code is valid for 10 minutes and works only once.

On first connection iOS asks whether Nohup may access your local network. Allow it so the phone and Mac connect directly on the same network, which is faster; if you deny it, Nohup still works through a relay.

The app embeds its own iroh node — no other app to install, and it doesn’t use the system VPN slot.

For completion notifications, tap Turn On Notifications in the app’s Settings › Notifications, or Turn On in Settings if you denied it before.

3. Start using it

  1. Add a project by browsing folders on your Mac.
  2. Pick an existing git worktree or create a new one.
  3. Start a new session, or open an existing one (including sessions started directly in the Mac’s terminal).
